Owen joined PCB Litigation as a newly qualified solicitor in October 2010, having trained at a Magic Circle law firm. During this training, he played a key role in assisting clients on a wide variety of high-value and complex commercial arbitration and litigation work, including advising a leading South African telecoms company on protecting its rights under a shareholders' agreement in an arbitration worth $1.4 billion, and acting for a major multi-national pharmaceuticals company in successfully reaching a settlement over a tax dispute with HMRC. He also spent 5 months in Moscow, working on corporate finance transactions for prominent Russian clients.
In addition to this commercial dispute resolution experience, Owen has more specific experience in fraud litigation, having acted for a company whose directors were subject to an investigation by the Serious Fraud Office. He was instrumental in ensuring that the company's legal rights were upheld during a "dawn-raid" search and seizure exercise, and advising on the consequences of assisting the directors in challenging a potentially invalid search warrant.
Owen graduated in 2006 with a law degree from Trinity Hall, Cambridge, and then spent 6 months teaching English at a university in China before going on to gain a diploma in legal practice from BPP Law School in 2008.
